Nokia Bell announced the successful completion of the end-to-end 5G New Air Interface (5G NR) data call test, which is part of the 5G technology R&D experiment conducted by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The dual network data call test conforms to the 3GPP standard, using the 3.5 GHz band 5G NR system wireless network and 2.1 GHz band LTE network, and the 5G user equipment simulator provided by PRISMA Telecom Testing.
By connecting the 5G NR with a 4G radio connected to an existing cloudized packet core network, a dual network connection can be achieved, which can help current 4G operators achieve 5G coverage quickly and launch 5G services. The 5G NR data call test will greatly facilitate the verification of 5G technology in the sub-6GHz band, enabling wide-area coverage and large-scale IoT connections, and will enable China to complete 5G commercial deployment by 2020.
As the most populous country in the world, China will become one of the first countries to deploy 5G technology, as well as a leader in 5G technology, bring more possibilities to consumers and the industry. For example, high-definition video downloads will bring better entertainment experience and new virtual reality experience. 5G will also enable networking of billions of Internet of Things devices, dramatically increase the level of automation, and use artificial intelligence to complete the transformation of industries and economies.
The end-to-end data call tests used the Nokia AirScale Cloud RAN, Nokia AirScale baseband unit, Nokia Massive MIMO active antenna, Nokia Cloudized Packet Core and Nokia Home Subscriber Services, and the 5G user equipment simulator provided by PRISMA Communications Test Company. The Nokia AirFrame data center solution is used to control the Cloud RAN. In 2018, Nokia Bell will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to test 5G technology in the 4.9GHz band.
Marc Rouanne, president of Nokia's mobile network, said: “We are very pleased to demonstrate our 5G end-to-end capabilities in this data call test with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The AirScale wireless access product portfolio can be upgraded to 5G through software and provide 4G, 4.5G Pro ,4.9G ,and traditional technologies with single RAN support, and Nokia is now able to use this portfolio to enable dual network connections, so we can help our customers complete early 5G deployments Plan and meet its initial network coverage needs.”
Enrico Bendinelli, President of PRISMA Communications Test Company, said: “We are very successful in this cooperation with Nokia and have laid a solid foundation for the continued evolution of 5G. This is very exciting. In the field of wireless access network testing, PRISMA Communications Test Company is a testing solution provider with global operations and supports all 3GPP mobile technologies. At present, our business scope covers R&D, technology integration and field trial. We are able to provide support for customers in all stages of development of the new 5G standard.”
