Recently, according to the reports, Italian operators TIM and Fastweb have officially put into commercial use of the first 3GPP standard 5G base station using Huawei's end-to-end 5G equipment. The three companies also jointly demonstrated 10 5G cooperation examples.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio attended the ceremony and pressed the start button to officially activate the base station. TIM and Fastweb intend to provide 5G coverage for Bari and Matera's 75% of the population by the end of 2018.
TIM, Fastweb, and Huawei took this opportunity to jointly showcase 10 examples of 5G, including smart cities and transportation, environment and heritage, smart health, smart ports, AR / VR, smart culture and tourism, smart roads, smart agriculture. etc.
TIM's Strategy and Innovation and Customer Experience Officer stated that this is only part of the digitalization of Italy's country: “The 5G project is part of a large portfolio of innovative solutions being developed by Telecom Italia to accelerate national digitalization.”
As a long-term business partner of TIM and Fastweb, Huawei provided a series of 5G commercial devices for this project to help build the core network.
