Hawaki submarine cable system lands in American Samoa
Hawaki undersea fiber optic cable system connecting Australia and New Zealand to the west coast of the United States has completed its final landing in American Samoa. The island will receive 200 Gbps of Internet capacity.
Remi Galasso, CEO of Hawaki Submarine Cable Company, said that the system will be put into production in June this year. By then, the Pacific Island countries will have sufficient capacity to support key Internet services, including e-health and e-education, which will affect the economic and social development of the entire region.
According to reports, the Hawaki submarine cable system is designed to connect Australia, New Zealand to the mainland of the United States, Hawaii Island and American Samoa, and can choose to extend the connection to the South Pacific Islands, a total length of 14,000 kilometers, by the Tyco Electronics subsidiary TE SubCom is responsible for the construction.
The cable needed for the project will be produced at TE SubCom's Newington, U.S. factory, including 14,000 km of submarine cable and more than 170 repeaters.
